The Garden District

A truly historical place, the Garden District is one of Baton Rouge’s most interesting neighborhoods. This up-and-coming area is a fantastic mix of history and hip, with century old homes and artistic coffee shops residing on the same oak-lined streets. A great place to call home, the American Planning Association even named it a Top 10 “Great Neighborhood” in the country!

As you might expect, this historic area is home to mostly older homes that were built between 1910 and 1930. There are three designated historic districts (Kleinert Terrace, Roseland Terrace and Drehr Place) and some of these architectural gems are even listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Here, you can find sprawling mansions, wood-framed houses, bungalows and a plethora of homes coming from the Queen Anne Colonial Revival.

A historic preservation ordinance has ensured that these homes keep their historic charm while most have been updated with modern, luxury amenities. There’s also an active neighborhood association here that hosts events and keeps these oak-lined streets filled with people and pets. Need another mode of transportation? Hop on the Garden District Trolley that takes residents downtown and to Southdowns. Or head over to the Perkins Road Overpass District where you can find dozens of restaurants, bars and retail and coffee shops. The Garden District has grown into an area where young graduates, artists and families love to call home with so much beauty and excitement around.

Speaking of beauty, residents can get outside and enjoy the City Park Golf Course and Tennis Center, City Brooks Park, Raisin’ Cane’s Dog Park or head inside to take in the art at the Baton Rouge Gallery.

Baton Rouge is a truly historical place with all the amenities of a hip, urban neighborhood. You’ll love to call this place home!
